Approach

The design challenge was translating Heather's established artistic voice into a digital identity without competing with the work itself. Starting with an exploration of typography, color, and texture, I developed a restrained visual system inspired by the tactile quality of paper and bookmaking. The resulting site feels intentionally quiet and gallery-like, creating space for the color, detail, and materiality of the artwork to take the lead.

I worked with Heather to organize an extensive body of work into clear collections, including artist books, books and installation, and tributes and commissions. I also established a consistent content structure for individual works, allowing each project to pair visual documentation with its materials, context, and creative process. Supporting content, including her bio, CV, resources, and contact information, rounds out the site as a professional resource for her practice.

Built in Squarespace at the client's request, the site extends the platform beyond its standard layouts while remaining straightforward to maintain. Following launch, I trained Heather to manage the site independently and add new work as her portfolio continues to grow.
